East Baton Rouge Council on Aging and UnitedHealthcare Celebrate Opening of Homewood Senior Center and Aquatic Program

Center to provide variety of services and activities to support seniors’ health and well-being

BATON ROUGE, La. (Feb. 10, 2015) – The East Baton Rouge Council on Aging and UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Louisiana recently celebrated the opening of the Homewood Senior Center and Aquatic Program. The center will serve the more than 65,000 seniors in the Baton Rouge area and was made possible through a $60,000 donation from UnitedHealthcare.[i]

Homewood Senior Center serves hot meals each day and offers a variety of activities and events designed to help older adults stay active and engaged in the community. Through the aquatic program, seniors can participate in water-safety education and swimming lessons, as well as receive aquatic therapy, which can be an effective treatment and exercise option for people who are overweight or arthritic by reducing the forces on body tissues and joint impact.

UnitedHealthcare will offer wellness, prevention and educational programs at Homewood Senior Center to help Baton Rouge seniors and other community members live healthier lives.

“The Council on Aging is thankful for the support we have received from UnitedHealthcare,” said Tasha Clark-Amar, CEO of East Baton Rouge Council on Aging. “Together we can provide a program that will help our seniors improve their mobility and enhance their quality of life.”

East Baton Rouge Council on Aging is a nonprofit organization serving East Baton Rouge Parish-area seniors. Each year the agency delivers 125,000 meals through its Meals on Wheels program, and more than 85,000 meals to seniors through its senior centers and meal sites.[ii]
