Pregnant individuals in the United States experience adverse maternal and birth outcomes at rates greater than those in nearly all other developed nations. About half of all births in the U.S. are covered by Medicaid. State Medicaid programs, MCOs and Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) are in a unique position to address adverse outcomes and improve health for pregnant individuals and infants. This policy brief created by the National FQHC Advisory Board outlines challenges facing FQHCs and potential policy opportunities to mitigate those obstacles.
