Essential Insights video: Elevating the work of Federally Qualified Health Centers

*In honor of National Health Center Week, we're spotlighting the role Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) play in building healthier communities.*

Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) are critical health care access points for underserved communities, delivering integrated, culturally competent care to over 32.5M people annually, including 1 in 5 Medicaid members and 1 in 5 rural residents.¹ These centers offer comprehensive services such as primary care, behavioral health, dental and pharmacy, often all under one roof. Yet, FQHCs face significant challenges, from rising demand and funding constraints to growing mental health needs.

In our Essential Insights video, “Elevating the work of Federally Qualified Health Centers,” we examine how community health centers are meeting these challenges head-on to improve health outcomes for Medicaid populations.

UnitedHealthcare’s Kim Hood, Senior Director of Primary Care and FQHC Strategy, spoke with Alice Riener, CEO of CrescentCare in New Orleans, to explore:

  • How FQHCs are addressing pressing community health needs, including chronic disease, mental health and substance use
  • How FQHCs drive patient engagement and long-term wellness
  • The importance of sustainable funding to meet rising demand
  • Real-world innovations from CrescentCare, including integrated care teams, intensive outpatient behavioral health programs and on-site dental expansion

Watch the full video to learn how FQHCs impact community health and help members overcome barriers that extend beyond the exam room.
